Bike riding is fun and a great way to get exercise and fresh air; but accidents happen. Every year, unfortunately, nearly one-fourth of the 7000 people who die in bicycle crashes are school age youth ranging in age from 5-17. Another 350,000 go to emergency rooms because of bike injuries. Almost one-third of those injured sustain brain injuries.
Head trauma is, by far, the most serious injury and most common cause of death amongst bicyclists. In severe cases, the bicyclist may incur permanent brain damage. Most bicycle deaths result from bicycle-motor vehicle collisions. These fatal crashes most commonly occur in summer between the peak time of 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. More children ranging in age from 5-14 are treated in hospital emergency rooms with injuries related to biking than any other sport. *
Be Seen. Be Safe. The Program was developed to provide parents, educators, and community organizations with the tools to teach kids about comprehensive bike safety. The program includes an informative handbook covering many areas of bike safety and the Bike Helmet Safety Kits. The kits include our high intensity photoluminescent and 3M Brand reflective decals which can be applied to bike helmets to increase rider visibility.
Photoluminescent or "glow in the dark" stickers allow you to be seen from any direction when riding at dusk or at night. In addition, reflective stickers are a great choice because they reflect light from headlights making you more visible to people driving cars. Using both types of stickers will greatly increase the possibility that you will be seen while riding your bike at night and reduce or prevent accidents and injuries.
Kits include various size decals made from both Photoluminescent and Reflective materials. Custom kits are available upon request.
